Job Description

The University of Alaska Fairbanks, in partnership with the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Wainwright, is seeking a full-time HVAC Technician (CT2) to join our skilled team. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and rapid response multiple craft projects across Fort Wainwright facilities. The technician will assist with inspections, construction, and general facility upkeep while adhering to strict safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Must be physically able to lift up to 70 pounds and work safely in various environments, including areas with potential hazardous materials. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain military installation access clearance are required. This role supports safe, efficient, and sustainable facility operations within a military environment under the UAF Environmental Community Partnership. Candidates must be U.S. citizens and meet all military installation requirements.

This HVAC position is part of the Environmental Community Partnership between the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) and the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) at Fort Wainwright. The role supports facility operations by performing routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure within a military environment. The position helps maintain critical facility systems contributing to a safe and resilient community.

Minimum Qualifications:

Journeyman level or equivalent certification in a specialized field including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; at least 3 years of HVAC experience.

3-5 years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC/R equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least one year experience performing preventative maintenance work on HVAC/R equipment.
Associates degree in HVAC/Refrigeration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EPA 608 certification preferred.
State of Alaska class III boiler license preferred.

Must be physically able to lift up to 70 pounds and work safely in various environments, including areas with potential hazardous materials.

A valid Alaska driver's license (or the ability to obtain one) and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.

The ability to obtain military installation access clearance is required.

This position is located on the Fort Wainwright base in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is a full-time, term-funded, non-exempt Local 6070 staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package .
